PUBLIC STATEMENT CONCERNING CRYPTO.NEWS’ CONDUCT | FEBRUARY 2, 2026
The ACJR is hosting this public letter as part of its mission to protect the professional interests and fair treatment of journalists.
This is a statement written by a group of former employees of crypto.news. We have chosen to remain anonymous to protect against targeted backlash. This statement is intended to be a public service announcement to fellow journalists, editors, and anyone else who may be considering working for crypto.news, or are currently working there.
Crypto.news top management has a pattern of not paying former employees their final salaries (in some cases, more than two months pay), and has threatened legal action against some employees when they responded.
In addition to withholding pay and/or delaying pay indefinitely, crypto.news leadership has repeatedly engaged in what former employees interpreted as manipulative and coercive behavior in order to keep former employees from speaking out publicly, or even speaking to each other about the conduct.
Crypto.news leadership’s conduct has included legal threats to former employees, such as threatening to sue them for financial and reputational damages to the company, and threatening to report them to their local authorities and current employers.
Finally, we would like to inform the public that in November 2025, at least 10 people were laid off from the editorial team with two days’ notice (most of them have yet to receive pay, so the notice is strictly symbolic). However, crypto.news’ pattern of refusing pay and other perceived misconduct was established before, and former employees have reported such conduct privately for at least a year.
We urge the company’s leadership to immediately rectify these outstanding issues and honor their obligations to all former staff.
